While many chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics present very little or zero danger, several dozen have been associated to substantial medical problems, including developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics enter the body through the skin and inhalation, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in food, water, and a lot of other common goods. Yet, no area of consumer goods is accountable to less government inspection than cosmetics and other personal products, including Hand and Body Lotion. While many of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products almost certainly present little risk, being exposed to some is associated with substantial health issues, such as cancer.
