While the majority of chemicals in cosmetic products present minimal or no risk, some are linked with considerable health problems, including developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals get into the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and cause the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in food and many other ordinary products. However, no category of consumer products is susceptible to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal products, including Figure 8s & Heart Breaks. Although many of the chemicals in cosmetics most likely pose minimal risk, your exposure to a few is associated with significant health concerns, including cancer.
