Although many chemicals in cosmetics present hardly any or zero risk, several dozen have been associated with considerable health conditions, including cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and lead to similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer are found in food and a lot of other commonly used goods. Still, no sector of consumer goods is accountable to less government inspection than cosmetics and other personal products, including Figure 8s & Heart Breaks. While most of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products almost certainly present minimal risk, exposure to a few has been linked to worrying health problems, including cancer.
