Though the majority of chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics pose limited or zero threat, several have been linked to considerable health issues, such as developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics enter the body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and lead to the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in water, food, and a lot of other common items. However, no classification of consumer items is subject to less government inspection than cosmetics, including Smoothed Over Lipstick (Camellia). While most of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics likely present little risk, being exposed to some has been associated with critical health conditions, including cancer.
