Though most chemicals in cosmetic products present little or zero threat, several have been associated with severe health problems, including cancer, and neurological harm. Cosmetic chemicals can enter the body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in food, water, and many other everyday items. Yet, no category of consumer items is accountable to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal care products, including Beach Stick. While most of the chemicals in cosmetics very likely present minimal risk, exposure to some is associated with worrying health issues, such as cancer.
