While the majority of chemicals in cosmetic products present slight or absolutely no risk, some have been associated with serious medical problems, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Cosmetic chemicals can enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and pose similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer can be found in water, food, and various other commonly used items.
