Though most chemicals in cosmetics pose limited or absolutely no risk, several dozen are associated to severe medical problems, such as developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics gain entry to the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and cause the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer are found in water, food, and many other commonly used items. Yet, no category of consumer items is susceptible to less government oversight than cosmetics, including eye pigment rave. While most of the chemicals in cosmetics likely present very little risk, subjection to some is associated with major health problems, such as cancer.
