Though most chemicals in beauty products pose slight or zero risk, several dozen have been associated to serious health issues, including cancer, and neurological harm. Cosmetic chemicals invade a person's body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and pose similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer can be found in food, water, and lots of other ordinary products. Yet, no sector of consumer products is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal products, including Illuminator (Shade Starlight). While many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics almost certainly pose very little risk, being exposed to some is linked to substantial health issues, including cancer.
