Though many chemicals in cosmetics present slight or absolutely no threat, several dozen are associated with severe medical problems, including cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter a person's body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and cause the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer can be found in food and lots of other common goods.
