Though most chemicals in cosmetics pose slight or absolutely no threat, several have been associated to severe health problems, such as developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals gain entry to a person's body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and pose similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer can be found in food, water, and lots of other common goods.
