While the majority of chemicals in cosmetics pose limited or absolutely no risk, dozens are associated to severe health conditions, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Cosmetic chemicals get into the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and cause similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer can be found in food, water, and various other ordinary goods. However, no category of consumer goods is susceptible to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal care products, including lip + cheek.
