Though many chemicals in cosmetic products pose slight or absolutely no danger, several dozen are linked with serious health problems, including cancer, and neurological harm. Cosmetic chemicals gain entry to a person's body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer are found in water, food, and several other ordinary items. But, no sector of consumer items is subject to less government management than cosmetics and other personal products, including cheek stain. Although most of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products probably present very little risk, exposure to some has been linked to major health problems, including cancer.
