While the majority of chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics pose very little or zero threat, dozens are associated to significant health conditions, including developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics get into the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and cause similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer can be found in food, water, and a lot of other everyday goods. Yet, no kind of consumer goods is susceptible to less government inspection than cosmetics and other personal products, including Shampoo. Though many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products probably pose little risk, subjection to some is associated with worrying health disorders, such as cancer.
