Although many chemicals in cosmetic products pose little or zero threat, several dozen have been linked with severe health conditions, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics enter a person's body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and lead to similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer are found in food and several other commonly used products. Yet, no area of consumer products is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics, including colored clay eyeshadow. Although most of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics most likely present little risk, exposure to a few is associated with major health concerns, including cancer.
