While many chemicals in beauty products pose little or no danger, several dozen have been associated with substantial health issues, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics get into a person's body through the skin and inhalation, and lead to similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer are found in food and lots of other ordinary products. However, no classification of consumer products is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal products, including Eye Shadow (Petal). Although many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics probably present very little risk, exposure to some is linked to worrying health issues, such as cancer.
