While many chemicals in beauty products present little or absolutely no danger, several dozen are associated with substantial medical conditions, including cancer, and neurological harm. Cosmetic chemicals can enter the body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and lead to the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer are found in water, food, and several other ordinary goods. But, no classification of consumer goods is subject to less government inspection than cosmetics, including Eye Shadow (Vanilla). Although many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products most likely pose very little risk, being exposed to a few is linked to serious health conditions, such as cancer.
