While the majority of chemicals in cosmetic products present little or absolutely no danger, several dozen are associated with serious health problems, including developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals can enter the body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and lead to similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer can be found in food, water, and several other common items. Still, no category of consumer items is subject to less government inspection than cosmetics and other personal products, including Pro Pencil (#3 shade). While most of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products likely pose little risk, being exposed to a few is associated with worrying health issues, such as cancer.
