Although the majority of chemicals in cosmetics pose limited or zero danger, several dozen are associated with serious medical conditions, including cancer, and neurological harm. Cosmetic chemicals can enter the body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and lead to similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in food, water, and various other common items. Still, no group of consumer items is susceptible to less government inspection than cosmetics, including Lip Gloss (What a Doll). While most of the chemicals in cosmetics almost certainly pose little risk, subjection to a few is associated with worrying health concerns, including cancer.
