Though the majority of chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics present very little or zero risk, several have been associated to serious health conditions, including developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals get into a person's body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and lead to the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer are found in food and lots of other ordinary products. Still, no type of consumer products is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal care products, including Lip Gloss (What a Doll). Although most of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products almost certainly present little risk, being exposed to some has been linked to major health issues, including cancer.
