While many chemicals in cosmetics pose little or absolutely no risk, several dozen have been linked to severe medical conditions, such as neurological harm and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals gain entry to the body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and lead to the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in water, food, and various other ordinary products. But, no type of consumer products is susceptible to less government oversight than cosmetics, including Body Lotion. Although most of the chemicals in cosmetics likely pose minimal risk, being exposed to a few has been associated with worrying health problems, such as cancer.
