While most chemicals in cosmetics pose slight or zero threat, some have been associated with serious medical issues, such as neurological harm and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics get into the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and cause similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer can be found in food, water, and a lot of other ordinary products.
