Although the majority of chemicals in cosmetic products present limited or no risk, several dozen have been associated to significant medical problems, including neurological harm and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and lead to similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in water, food, and lots of other ordinary products. Still, no group of consumer products is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics, including Nail Polish (Diva 'til Dawn). Though most of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products probably pose very little risk, subjection to some has been associated with critical health conditions, including cancer.
