Although the majority of chemicals in cosmetic products pose minimal or zero danger, dozens have been associated with substantial medical issues, including developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and cause similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in food, water, and various other everyday products. But, no category of consumer products is accountable to less government direction than cosmetics, including Eye Pigment (Violet-6). While most of the chemicals in cosmetics likely pose little risk, subjection to some has been associated with serious health concerns, including cancer.
