While many chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics present little or zero danger, some have been linked with significant health problems, such as cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Chemicals in cosmetics get into the body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer are found in water, food, and a lot of other commonly used items.
