While most chemicals in beauty products pose slight or zero risk, some have been linked with substantial medical conditions, including cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Cosmetic chemicals get into the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and pose similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer are found in water, food, and lots of other common products. But, no classification of consumer products is accountable to less government inspection than cosmetics and other personal care products, including Lip Gloss (FLAB-0048). While most of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics almost certainly present little risk, subjection to a few is associated with substantial health problems, including cancer.
