Though most chemicals in cosmetic products pose little or no danger, dozens are associated with significant health problems, including neurological harm and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and pose similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in food, water, and various other ordinary products. Yet, no category of consumer products is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics, including Lip Gloss (FLAB-0048). Though most of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics very likely present very little risk, being exposed to a few has been associated with worrying health conditions, including cancer.
