Although most chemicals in cosmetics pose limited or no danger, several dozen are linked with serious medical conditions, including cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics get into the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and lead to similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in food, water, and various other ordinary items. But, no sector of consumer items is susceptible to less government direction than cosmetics, including Lip Gloss (Cupcake). Though many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products probably present little risk, being exposed to some has been associated with significant health issues, including cancer.
