While the majority of chemicals in cosmetics pose hardly any or no risk, several dozen are associated to serious health issues, including developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals gain entry to the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and lead to the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer are found in food and lots of other ordinary items. Still, no type of consumer items is accountable to less government inspection than cosmetics and other personal products, including Lip Gloss (Cupcake). While many of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products most likely present little risk, exposure to a few is linked to major health issues, such as cancer.
