While many chemicals in cosmetic products pose slight or no risk, several dozen are associated with serious health conditions, including cancer, and neurological harm. Cosmetic chemicals enter the body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and pose the same dangers as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer are found in water, food, and various other ordinary goods. But, no sector of consumer goods is subject to less government inspection than cosmetics and other personal care products, including Eyeshadow (Chanel 10-2).
