Although many chemicals in beauty products pose little or zero threat, some are associated to severe medical conditions, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and lead to similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer can be found in food and lots of other commonly used products. Yet, no category of consumer products is susceptible to less government inspection than cosmetics, including Illuminator (#3-2). Though many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products probably pose little risk, exposure to some is linked to critical health disorders, including cancer.
