While the majority of chemicals in cosmetics pose minimal or absolutely no danger, dozens have been linked to substantial medical conditions, including neurological harm and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals invade the body through the skin and inhalation, and cause similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer are found in water, food, and many other everyday products. However, no type of consumer products is susceptible to less government inspection than cosmetics and other personal products, including Eyeshadow (#53). While many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics most likely pose very little risk, subjection to some is associated with serious health problems, including cancer.
