Although the majority of chemicals in cosmetics pose very little or no danger, dozens are linked with considerable medical conditions, including cancer, and neurological harm. Cosmetic chemicals invade the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and cause similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.
