While most chemicals in cosmetic products pose little or zero threat, several dozen have been linked with serious medical problems, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Cosmetic chemicals enter the body through the skin and inhalation, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer are found in food and lots of other commonly used products. Still, no area of consumer products is susceptible to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal care products, including Eyeshadow (Bobbi Note 4-3A). While many of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products most likely present minimal risk, being exposed to a few has been associated with major health disorders, including cancer.
