While most chemicals in cosmetic products pose hardly any or absolutely no threat, several dozen have been associated with substantial medical conditions, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics invade the body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and lead to the same dangers as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer can be found in food, water, and many other ordinary products. But, no sector of consumer products is accountable to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal care products, including Eyeshadow (#3). While many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics likely present minimal risk, being exposed to a few is linked to critical health conditions, including cancer.
