While most chemicals in cosmetic products present very little or absolutely no threat, some are linked to severe health issues, including neurological harm and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics gain entry to the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and cause the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer can be found in food and many other everyday goods. However, no classification of consumer goods is subject to less government inspection than cosmetics, including Eyeshadow (#12). While many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics most likely present little risk, your exposure to some is linked to significant health issues, including cancer.
