Although many chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics pose little or absolutely no danger, several are associated with serious health problems, such as developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals get into the body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and lead to the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in water, food, and lots of other everyday items. However, no group of consumer items is subject to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal care products, including Eyeshadow (Dior 208-5-4A). While most of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products in all likelihood pose minimal risk, being exposed to a few has been associated with significant health issues, such as cancer.
