Though most chemicals in cosmetics pose minimal or zero danger, some have been associated to severe medical issues, including developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals get into the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and pose similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in food, water, and lots of other commonly used goods.
