Though many chemicals in cosmetics present minimal or absolutely no threat, several are linked to substantial health conditions, including cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and cause similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in water, food, and several other common products. However, no category of consumer products is susceptible to less government inspection than cosmetics and other personal products, including Lip Gloss (Pixie). Though most of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics most likely present very little risk, being exposed to some is associated with substantial health concerns, such as cancer.
