Though the majority of chemicals in cosmetics pose little or no threat, several dozen have been associated with severe health conditions, such as neurological harm and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals can enter a person's body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and cause similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer can be found in food and many other commonly used products.
