Although the majority of chemicals in beauty products pose little or no danger, several dozen have been associated with significant health conditions, including neurological harm and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals can enter the body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and pose similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in food, water, and lots of other ordinary goods.
