Though most chemicals in beauty products pose little or no threat, some have been associated to significant health issues, such as developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals get into the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and cause the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer can be found in food, water, and various other common products. Yet, no area of consumer products is subject to less government direction than cosmetics, including Lip Balm (Vanilla Mint). Though many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics most likely pose minimal risk, subjection to some is linked to serious health disorders, such as cancer.
