Though many chemicals in cosmetics present limited or no risk, some have been associated with severe health conditions, including cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Cosmetic chemicals can enter the body through the skin and inhalation, and cause similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer can be found in food and many other ordinary goods.
