While most chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics present little or zero threat, dozens are associated to significant health issues, including developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics get into the body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in water, food, and various other everyday items. Still, no sector of consumer items is susceptible to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal care products, including Lip Gloss (Coral).
