While many chemicals in cosmetics pose very little or absolutely no threat, dozens have been associated with substantial medical problems, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics gain entry to the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and lead to the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer are found in food, water, and lots of other common items. However, no group of consumer items is susceptible to less government inspection than cosmetics, including Lip Gloss (Cherry Pie). Although most of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products almost certainly pose little risk, subjection to some has been linked to significant health disorders, including cancer.
