Though most chemicals in cosmetic products pose little or no risk, dozens have been associated with serious health problems, including cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Cosmetic chemicals get into a person's body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and lead to similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer are found in food, water, and several other everyday products. Still, no classification of consumer products is susceptible to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal care products, including Lip Gloss (Cherry Pie). Although many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics almost certainly present minimal risk, being exposed to a few is linked to major health problems, including cancer.
