While many chemicals in cosmetics present limited or no risk, several have been associated with severe health conditions, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics gain entry to a person's body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and pose similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer are found in food, water, and a lot of other common items. Still, no category of consumer items is susceptible to less government oversight than cosmetics, including Lip Gloss (Watermelon).
