While the majority of chemicals in cosmetics pose slight or absolutely no risk, several dozen are linked to serious health conditions, including developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer are found in water, food, and a lot of other ordinary products.
