Chemicals in cosmetics get into the body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and cause similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer can be found in food and a lot of other ordinary products. Still, no category of consumer products is susceptible to less government management than cosmetics, including CC Cream (Dark). Though many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics likely present little risk, being exposed to some has been associated with serious health problems, including cancer.
