Though many chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics present hardly any or absolutely no danger, some have been associated with severe medical problems, including cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and cause the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer are found in food and lots of other ordinary goods. But, no sector of consumer goods is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics, including Shampoo. While many of the chemicals in cosmetics probably pose minimal risk, being exposed to a few is linked to major health concerns, such as cancer.
