While many chemicals in cosmetic products present very little or zero danger, some have been associated with considerable medical problems, such as developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics get into the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and lead to the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in food and several other everyday products. Yet, no category of consumer products is susceptible to less government management than cosmetics and other personal care products, including Bath and Shower Gel.
