Though many chemicals in cosmetic products present very little or no threat, dozens are associated to significant health problems, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics enter the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and lead to the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer can be found in water, food, and various other commonly used products. But, no category of consumer products is accountable to less government oversight than cosmetics, including Bath and Shower Gel. Although many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products almost certainly present little risk, being exposed to a few has been associated with worrying health disorders, such as cancer.
