While many chemicals in cosmetic products present very little or no risk, several dozen have been associated with serious medical problems, including cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Cosmetic chemicals get into your body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and lead to the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer are found in food, water, and lots of other commonly used products. Still, no classification of consumer products is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal products, including Tinted Lip Balm. While most of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products probably present little risk, exposure to some has been linked to significant health disorders, such as cancer.
