While many chemicals in cosmetics present hardly any or absolutely no threat, several dozen have been associated with severe medical problems, such as developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals gain entry to the body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and lead to the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer can be found in water, food, and many other commonly used products. Still, no kind of consumer products is susceptible to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal products, including Pressed Powder. While many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics in all likelihood present little risk, exposure to a few has been associated with serious health concerns, including cancer.
