While many chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics present slight or zero threat, some have been associated with severe health issues, such as developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and lead to the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer are found in food, water, and many other ordinary items. However, no type of consumer items is subject to less government inspection than cosmetics, including Hair & Body Wash. Although many of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products probably pose very little risk, subjection to some has been linked to serious health problems, including cancer.
