While many chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics present very little or zero risk, several dozen are linked with severe health issues, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and lead to similar dangers as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in water, food, and lots of other common products. However, no classification of consumer products is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal products, including Hair and Body Wash. While most of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products almost certainly pose very little risk, exposure to a few is associated with significant health disorders, including cancer.
